Crater Lake, Oregon June 2014

Crater Lake is a worthwhile detour on the way to Ashland. The drive to it is beautiful, of course, but the lake is truly spectacular. Since only rain and snowmelt feed the lake, the waters are clear and blue. A deep blue - a verging-on-Greece-blue kind of blue. There was still snow on the surrounding landscapes. Sadly, I only had my old point and shoot camera, so I could only get small pieces of the lake. My beloved wide angle lens would have come in handy here. An interesting view of Wizard Island. Silly humans. Anything for a good selfie.

The World's Smallest Harbor - Depoe Bay, Oregon June 2014

My summer vacation tradition has, in years past, consisted of a trip to Oregon. I usually visited places on the way to the Oregon Shakespeare Festival. This tradition stalled a couple of years ago, but I resurrected it this year. Determined to keep doing something that I enjoy, I planned my summer road trip. Not often do I visit the world's smallest anything, but Depoe Bay offered just that. The World's Smallest Harbor. Which didn't mean there wasn't anything to see. Sure, there was the six acre harbor, but there was also a cute little town, and a nice bridge. But the real draw was the the rocky coastline.
