I think I've pretty much had my fill of museums. Especially ancient ones.
Although it is obvious that many countries that don't have the best present often take great pride in their past. I live in a very young country that doesn't have the reverence for the past that most other, older societies to...so a lot of museums in one day tend to be a bit hard on the old bean.
Keeping my dynasties right, keeping the tribes straight, keeping the general world history timeline in mind at any given time...it kind of becomes a blur.
But give me some art, some religious triptychs, some icons, some crazy ornate crosses and paintings of saints and I'm there. You've got my attention. Bulgaria was full of icons, and I've been surprised to see some here as well, although I shouldn't be, because both countries are orthodox.
I can't ignore that Lucy was discovered here, and you can come see a replica of her bones. Of course, the real ones are in a vault somewhere for study.
These are some of the pictures I took at Ethiopia's National Ethnographic Museum and the Museum and Library of the Institute of Ethiopian Studies. No details, just the gist.
